America was once revered as the "Arsenal of Democracy" due to our manufacturing prowess. Today... we're a nation of borrowers with half of us selling internet service to the other half... who are selling burgers and tacos to our half. Meanwhile, we attack the unions because they refuse to work for $4 a day. The only thing America produces in these last days of the Empire is fear and paranoia. LOOK OUT!!! An underwear bomber! HIDE!!! A guy burning his shoes!!!

The problem with the unions is their leadership took a cue from the politicians, it's all about them and not the worker anymore. Tremka is a prime example $400,000+ a year in salary, that's probably 6 to 7 times more then the workers he represents make.
by larryp0304 October 13, 2010 9:26 PM EDT
If anyone wants to be totally honest about it, the unions brought the loss of jobs overseas upon us. C'mon, union workers on the freaking assembly line at GM and Ford were making a ton back in the 80's and that mentality spread. People got greedy which made business greedier and that changed the whole ballgame. Truth be told, there is enough responsibility to go around to a lot of people who caused this mess.
by retm-w October 13, 2010 9:48 PM EDT
larryp0304 And those Ford, GM and Chrysler workers were forced to work mandantory overtime. That's where their ton was made, I have neighbors who worked for Ford and GM and they had to work the OT or be disciplined. How would you like to be forced to work more then 40 hours per week and weekends.
by luadda22 October 13, 2010 10:52 PM EDT
The unions are to blame. Where else could a high school drop-out go to work for $45 per hour with benefits installing the lug nuts on the right front wheel of a Ford pick-up? And you wonder why all the manufacturing jobs have gone over-seas.
by rharrin1 October 13, 2010 11:53 PM EDT
It was the union that MADE gm big. Don't forget it.

The lie didn't work for you either?
by retiredgustav October 13, 2010 8:53 PM EDT
Perhaps you should try one of the basic rules of the stok market. Buy low and sell high. I did that and it worked wonders. I am about 150% vabove where I was before the bush stock market crash
by luadda22 October 13, 2010 10:36 PM EDT
retiredgustav, does that mean that you are now one of the "evil" rich and "greedy" people???
by saturn05 October 13, 2010 10:50 PM EDT
And you blame Obama for this, how dumb are you? Bush ruined our economy and is the one that started the Wall Street bailout, not Obama.

Thanks to the corrupt Federal Reserve and its evil extensions of the investment bankers, such as the Goldman Sachs,Morgan Stanley, and JP Morgan.

Who are these people making up the 22%. Are they extremely rich people, hardcore Socialists, drugged out goofballs, aliens from another planet, or crazy people? I doubt many are main stream Americans. How could anyone think the economy is better?

Just 2 years ago I was leasing space from a guy who was close to losing all he had worked for. Today work is flowing in the door.
by retiredgustav October 13, 2010 8:59 PM EDT
As I see it 72% say the economy is about the same or getting better. Te 27% are a bunch of pesimist. I just got back from a trip with a friend of mine from Europe. In all of the major cities that we visited, the stores were packed people are buying the subways were jammed even on Sunday. Perhaps the Obama hating Bubbas need to venture out into the world a little to see what is really going on and stop drinking that rush limbaugh kool aid.

recipients of hundreds of billions in section 8 housing, food stamps, therest are the union thugs and the Left.
by rightbehind October 13, 2010 7:22 PM EDT
I walked through 2 plants last week and both owners were showing me the work that was backed up. They are waiting till after the election before they hire. They both clink to republican ideology. Republican ideology has robbed us all. No matter if your a store owner, restaurant, car dealer, home builder or repair. If they exported jobs offshore they have robbed us of customers. As a businessman myself I need lots of customers with cash. Not just 1 CEO that makes 16 thousand dollars an hour. Don't reward the republicans for the damage they've done. It's like rewarding a rapist.

That one CEO that makes 16 thousand per hour is the one that OK's what the company spends to buy products or services.
by RealWorldNow October 13, 2010 8:19 PM EDT
Sounds like not a single business owner is a democrat. So without Republicans the whole country would be working for the government...?
by RickChicago1 October 13, 2010 9:52 PM EDT
Warning Liberal Lies Above. rightbehind tells us he is a diehard Liberal so lets remember that all Liberals lie. Then he says that TWO plants have SO much money that they can ignore their profits and wait until after Nov 2nd to get paid on all this week that was "backed up." I suppose those 2 plants would then release this "Backed up work" and the GDP would go right through the ROOF and because it happened on Nov 3rd that would PROVE the superiority of the economic leadership of Conservatism............... PLEASE this is just a case of Liberal lies. ANY business is doing ANYTHING that it can to SURVIVE the WORST President in the history of America. Anyone business that had SOOO much work they could ignore their customers and wait until Nov 3rd to prove a point is so far beyond belief that only hard core leftists would even bite at that one. By the way in regards to the final comment it is the Left that is Raping AMerica. Massive Debt Massive Government intrusion MAssive TAXES

The bridges are looking great!
by retm-w October 13, 2010 7:51 PM EDT
Rightbehind The bridges are great? Depends on where and what bridges you are talking about. You talking about one area, I could show you bridges that are closed to truck traffic, some that are closed altogether and have been for a couple of years. And those aren't bridges to nowhere, they're on major roadways.

IF what retm-w says is true then why hasn't Our Dear Leader sprung into action with the 400 billion left over in the "Stimulus" so that these shovel ready jobs can be created and return us to our "Workers Paradise"? Follow up question If there is 400 billion left over from the Stimulus why does The Annointed One ask for another $50 Billion to do what the first 875 Billion has not, will not, and can not? Answer :The Stimulus is there to serve as Obamboozlers stash for re-election. It was NEVER intended to do jobs. If it was you would have spent all the money in the year and half that has passed since we got this "blessing" from The Annointed One. The stimulus

RickChicago1 The interbelt bridge on the northbound side of I 71 going into downtown Cleveland has been closed to Truck traffic for 2 years. The southbound side was closed to truck traffick for about a year, and will probably be closed again during the winter, because of the weight of the snow. A new bridge is in the planning stages but won't be started until sometime in 2012, hmmm just in time for elections.
